Being the mom to 3 boys, I have learned cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.

Walking.....& Falling
Isaac surprised me when I got home from work last night. He decided yesterday would be the day when he would start taking more and more steps. We are considering it "walking" with falling.

As fall approaches...
Hard to believe school starts in t-minus 17 days. The boys are not nearly as excited as I am! We are still on the house hunt. House hunting is now turning into house building. For the life of me, I don't understand why people build houses with bedrooms spread all over the floor plan....its getting annoying. I know once the house building project starts, we will be longing for it to be done but at least we will have what we want - mostly.
Dominic - a 2nd grader. He is getting so tall. He is up to my shoulders now - and we about wear the same size socks which makes sorting laundry harder these days.
Luke - a Kindergartner! He is getting excited and nervous for school to start. He is getting tall too - almost tall enough for the water slide at the pool.
Isaac - he is tall! He had his one year well visit this week. He is 31.5 inches and 24lbs 6 oz. His feet are gigantic - nearly outgrowing a size 5 already. Still not walking but shouldn't be long. He takes steps when he wants too but still prefers crawling. Isaac is still pacifier free and hopefully bottle free as of last night. Of course he is still a cutie with a cloth bootie!
This fall we will be driving, and driving, and driving, and driving some more to Idaho. Grandma is getting a very special award from Sinclair Oil as being an owner for 80 years! We are attending and planning a trip through the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone on our way there.
Isaac and I are planning our time too for the fall. I hope to get us to the pool for a Mommy and Me class and to the library for the toddler story time. I also want to get some workout time during nap and finish Isaac's Life Book.
Luke would like to play soccer this fall - we will see. Then wrestling starts at the beginning of December. Wow - sounds like the year is already over! It will go by fast...no doubt.

Bee Sting - Yikes
While at Baring Lake the weekend we celebrated Isaac's birthday, he was stung by a bee or yellow jacket. Right on his ear. It swelled in less than 15 mins with ice. Ouch....and yikes.
But Isaac is a trooper. He cried for a minute or two and then was more ticked off about the ice pack I kept trying to hold on his ear than the sting itself. We asked the doctor about a possible bee sting allergy and he said to just watch him if it happens again since he didn't have any breathing difficulties. Thankfully it looked normal again in 24 hours.
Notice the Faux Hawk? Since Luke sports a real mohawk and thinks Isaac needs one too, this is the "mommy compromise" - the faux hawk.

Isaac is 1 Year Old!
Wow. What a year. Not only has Isaac turned 1 year old, but we have now officially been home a year and we have officially been cloth diapering for a year! Isaac has brought such tremendous joy into our lives and now we can't imagine a day when he wasn't our son.
So let's get to the good stuff. Pictures of all of Isaac's birthday parties! In traditional Cahalan fashion, Isaac had 3 celebrations:
Celebration #1 was very impromptu and spontaneous. We were hanging out with cousins and Miss A decided Isaac needed a birthday cake. So this is what we came up with - Miss A helped decorate by picking out the colors.
After cake, Isaac headed outside to get cleaned-up by the water table and pool.
Grammy needs to understand that there is not always time for hugs and kisses! There is tons of playing and exploring that needs to be done!
Celebration #3 was on Isaac's actual birthday. While not an overly impressive homemade cake by me, at least I think you can tell that it is "the very hungry caterpillar".
This was so funny to watch. Dominic and Luke had to hold Isaac back from the cake long enough for us to sing happy birthday and get a few pictures! I guess practice helps when it comes to "smash" cakes! Isaac was not shy at all for the 3rd cake!

Onto celebration #2! This one was at Baring Lake. Dominic and Luke thought Isaac needed a Dinosaur themed cake - of course - what else?
Cool....plastic trees. I bet they taste yummy!
This is pretty good stuff.
Ok Mom. It was fun while it lasted. But I've had enough.

Happy 1st Birthday Isaac!
Isaac's birthday is not official for more than 12 hours but I finished his short version of his "Journey through a Year" and wanted to post it! We love you so much buddy! Oh - wanted to add this is a compressed version so it might get jumpy and the picture quality is lacking...but you get the idea!

Happy July 4th
I'm at work today so Mark and the boys are enjoying a "boy only" day. I'm sure they are having a blast.
Just thought I would give a quick update on family life at our house. Dominic finished up his dinosaur class. He had a great time. His baseball season is over and he hit a home run in the last game! Luke is preparing for Kindergarten with worry already. We have told him to relax and have a great time. He ended his baseball season with a home run too! Isaac is nearly 1 yr old! He is finally waving bye-bye and clapping - both things he thinks are hysterical. The boys are teaching him all kinds of funny faces to make too. He has also taken 4-5 steps on his own a few times - but this must be on his terms.
We have already had one birthday celebration where Isaac was able to dive into a smash cake. I considered this practice for the real one coming up soon.
Hard to believe school starts in 5 weeks. The summer is almost over and it feels like it just started.
