Yesterday was the last day of preschool! Dominic is officially a kindergartner now. Hard to believe that in less than 90 days he will be in school all day, every day.
Dominic is also playing baseball this summer. So far he is participating well at practices - even without Mark being on the field (another sign he is growing up!). He is supposed to have his first game this Saturday - but we will see with the weather.
Dominic woke up in the middle of the night not feeling well. He was running a fever and is congested. I think he has gotten a cold from somewhere. He told me that it was a good thing that yesterday was the last day of school because he wouldn't be able to go today. He also commented that he must not have washed his hands good enough yesterday since he got sick!
It has been a very wet and chilly spring. We are really hoping that the sun decides to show itself soon!
Being the mom to 3 boys, I have learned cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.

Mother's Day
I had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. We spent the weekend in Kansas City with my mom. We took the boys to a Dinosaur exhibit and IMAX movie - which they LOVED! At Mass that evening, the priest said a special prayer for mothers of all kinds. He included women that grieve every Mother's Day since they still have empty arms. That one had tears rolling down my face!
We capped off the weekend with a womens only 5K walk/run. It was tons of fun. My mother, sister, niece, mother-in-law, 6 of my sister-in-laws, and several nieces on that side all participated. We thought next year we needed to all dress the same.....One niece took 3rd in her age group and one sister in law took 2nd in hers! The majority of us just walked.
I got to wear a tiara and #1 MOM button all day!

Empty Nest
The last remaining egg was smashed in a hail storm we had Thursday night. Mark said that baby was only half formed. When we returned from our Mother's Day weekend, the nest was completely empty. The boys want to "save" the nest. So we will find a special spot for it in one of our gardens.

Abandoned
We haven't seen the mama robin for 4 days now. Also the egg appears to be in the same position. We feel the mama has abandoned the nest completely. I told the boys that we will give her until Friday then we will clean up the nest mess. Luke says the reason she hasn't come back is because she is in Heaven with Jesus. Maybe.

One Egg Remains
The rescued baby bird was dead this morning. I can't tell if the mama came back or not - it really doesn't look like it. She wasn't out there this morning when I checked nor did I see her flying around the yard. I took the dead baby out of the nest before the kids could see it. I really hope the last egg hatches and that baby makes it. We have told the boys not to hold out much hope for this last egg either.

Tragedy at the nest
Here is the poor little baby in the rocks about 8ft below the nest. We don't know how long it had been laying in the rocks and the tempurature today was only in the low 60s. The baby was still alive, so I picked it up with medical gloves on and returned it to the nest in hopes that the mama robin will care for it.
